We made it to Inverness, not the most northern point in Scotland, but a beating heart of pride and the most North I’ve ever traveled.

I’m getting used to the trains, switching at the right spots and saving money by getting split save tickets and realizing that nobody checks or asks my child how old he is. This is initiations after initiations and I know next time I’ll practically be able to travel as a local.

Tourist season is in full swing and hearing multiple languages as we pass each other is a thrill for me, and a curiosity why anyone else would set their sights on this place.

History is rich here and I know why I’ve felt the call to Scotland. There is a strength and outward resilience that has secured a place within my soul. I am of this land and…

Scotland has been calling my name. About 6 months ago, I had acquired a couple of magnetic hematite stones, which had attracted the Scottish coat of arms. I did some research and noticed 3 places of interest made a perfect triangle surrounding Loch Ness. I knew I would be traveling there, but it didn’t seem possible in my current circumstances.

So I waited, knowing…

I time travelled today. Packed up what I needed for me and my son, boarded a plane, then a trolley, another plane, a train and now we are resting in a tiny hostel hotel room, at 4PM. Feeling like it’s 4AM.

I love traveling. I’ll forgo comfort to take the cheapest and most adventurous route to anywhere I’ve never been. I’ll stay up all night, gaining a few minutes of shut eye on an airport floor just to get halfway across the world. Or at least I used to.

Things change when..

Pull into the gas station,

there’s a man blasting smooth beats,

I go in to use the restroom..

.. walk back out..

he pulls around,

looking for some trouble,

or to get lucky..

..stops and pulls into reverse..

He says where’d you come from?

I ignore the question and reply,

“Going to Venice Beach to watch the sunrise”

I motion to the man who…
